Not long ago they were trapped in their home by floodwater – but Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee made it to the Pomegranate unscathed last week.
They haven’t changed in 30 years.
Paul is still small but perfectly formed; Debbie is as youthful and slender as ever.
And the magic is as magical as it always was.
Out came old favourites like the Bunco Booth.
Then there were tricks with cards and handkerchiefs, a new twist on sawing the lady in half, a bit of mind-reading, and a hilarious, astounding finale with a £5 note.
Debbie had some tricks of her own, one with a balloon, another with rice.
And the audience got involved. Susie and Julie had some fun with a pack of cards. Daisy amazed herself by copying Paul’s steel ring trick.
Richard was draped in a pink feather boa by a passing poltergeist.
And four random men played musical chairs.
It wasn’t entirely politically correct, but that’s Paul Daniels: huge fun, highly entertaining and a bit naughty.
If this really is his farewell tour, he’ll be sadly missed.
