Alfreton rockers Apparently We Fly are on a high this week after winning the Deafbox Ripley battle of the bands contest.

The band wowed both audience and judges in the final of the event, held at The Out of Town, Ripley.

The first band to play at the grand final was Derby based band, ‘Welcome to the city’, who set an extremely high standard from the word go.

Next up were youngsters ‘The Executive Crew’ who got the crowd of over 100 moving with a mixture of excellent standard cover songs.

The third band of the night were Burton boys ‘Deadlight’ who are quickly taking the local scene by storm.

The fourth band were Derby based ‘Charm of Achilles’ who once again gave an outstanding performance and got the crowd swaying with their unique style.

The final band on were Alfreton’s Apparently we Fly, who gave an amazing performance, the crowd went wild and the judges were unanimous: Apparently We Fly we’re crowned Ripley Battle of the Bands winners 2012.

They will now be main support for Silent Screams at this years Deafbox Festival which is being held at the Intake Club, Mansfield on the 15th & 16th September.

Deafbox’s founder Shaun Bunting said: “The level of bands in the competition was outstanding, and really shows that Derbyshire has an excellent music scene. The eventual winners, Apparently we Fly, fully deserved the slot at this years festival and I can be assured they will give an amazing performance and really impress the crowd.”
