Fans of sweet soul music will love the show that’s rolling into Derbyshire.
Original hitmakers Jimmy James & The Vagabonds, Clem Curtis of The Foundations and Ernestine Pearce of The Flirtations are teaming up to serve a volley of favourite songs.
The nationwide touring production of Soul Explosion lands at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel on Friday, January 29, - and you could win tickets to see it.
Jimmy James joined forces with The Vagabonds in 1964 and they left Jamaica for what was due to be a six-month tour of the UK.
They became so popular in this country that they extended the tour and became residents here.
They went on to tour Tunisia, Germany, Greece, France, Belgium and Holland.
Jimmy James & The Vagabonds became the first musical unit from the western hemisphere to entertain behind the Iron Curtain.
Their hits include I’ll Go Where Your Music Takes Me and Now Is The Time.
Clem Curtis was lead singer with The Foundations, a British soul band who were active from 1967 to 1970.
The Foundations hit the charts with songs such as Baby Now That I’ve Found You and Build Me Up Buttercup.
Ernestine Pearce was lead singer with all-girl harmony group The Flirtations who got together in the Sixties.
Their first single Change My Darkness Into Light paved the way for hits such as Nothing But A Heartache, Take Me In Your Arms And Love Me and Back On My Feet Again.
Tickets for Soul Explosion at the Winding Wheel cost £25 and £23 (concessions). Contact 01246 345222 or www.chesterfieldtheatres.co.uk
