Festival organiser calls for teams to enter memorial day’s boat race

Can you form a crew to take part in a charity dragon boat festival?

That’s the call from the organiser of a fundraiser in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and Anthony Nolan.

The event is being held in memory of Richard Woolley, of Hasland, who died of leukaemia in 2009, aged 26.

His father, Mike, is organising the event at Rother Valley Country Park, near Killamarsh, on Saturday, June 9 and has appealed for a few more teams to join the challenge.

Competitors will race over a 200m course, with commentators relaying details of teams and their targets to spectators during the day.

Each team will have a minimum of three races, but the fastest averaging teams will go through to the semi-finals, with the best two of these battling it out in the final.

The top four teams will win a medal for each person and there will be a trophy for the winning team.

There will be a prize for the best fancy dress team and the team raising the most for charity will have a free two-course meal for 12 people, donated by Ka=China, Cantonese restaurant.
