Two concerts are to be held at the Hollingwood Hub to raise funds to restore and develop Chesterfield canal.

First up, on March 7, are Hérétique, three talented young Englishmen with a passion for European traditional music.

Their music is an exciting blend of Anglo-French traditional dance, with a smidgeon of jazz and contemporary classical, and a healthy dollop of pop culture, film and TV references on the side.

There’s plenty of chat, laughter, showmanship and musical surprises - don’t be astonished to hear the theme from ‘The A Team’ popping up in the middle of a traditional French Bourée, or an elegant madrigal slipping into a Russian drinking song or a well-known bit of Bach!

The second concert is entiteld Hoagy, Hornpipes, Handel and Hoedown, presented by Hilary James and Simon Mayor on Wednesday, March 21.

Beethoven gets the mandolin treatment and rubs shoulders with Gershwin, a foot-stomping Texas fiddle tune and a song written for children gets the audience joining in on the action and their lovely laidback humour adds to the quality of a really great, musical night out.

Nona’s Coffee Shop will be open from 6.30 p.m, with the concerts starting at 7.30pm. There is onsite parking.

All tickets are £8. To buy them, go to the Chesterfield Canal Trust website, email or ring (01246) 477569.
