A Chesterfield-born film writer’s situation-comedy has been developed into an hilarious 28 minute pilot with top UK actors.

Writer Ross Marshall hit the headlines in the Derbyshire Times when his comedy School on Report was performed by young actors from the Chesterfield-based Screenworks drama school.

The sit-com - now renamed Educating Bitchfield - has been co-written with former Hollyoaks’ star Lee Otway, who played Bombhead and also stars in the pilot and has been co-producer and director.

Ross said: “The sit-com is set in a school and it has been described as a mix of the Inbetweeners and Phoenix Nights. We’re looking at pitching it to broadcasting companies over the next month.”

The sit-com’s hapless headteacher Mr Farenheight is played by John Henshaw, of The Royle Family, and there are an array of well-known names including Scott Wright, of Shameless, Mark Benton, of Waterloo Road, and Louis Emerick, of Layer Cake, and Laura Jane Matthewson. It also features extras from the Yorkshire School of Acting.

Ross added: “Our show has received nearly 5,500 views on YouTube. I’ve been overwhelmed and the feedback has been very positive.”
