Locals from the Derbyshire Dales and theatre professionals have joined together to mount the Bakewell Youth Theatre 35th anniversary concert.
The concert, at Bakewell’s Medway Centre tonight (Friday, December 20) and tomorrow will feature local young people alongside those who have graduated into theatre careers.
Tom Pearce, Bakewell Youth Theatre graduate of the 90s now living and working in the West End and internationally, will appear alongside current members of BYT as well as with other BYT ‘graduates’, some of whom have gone on to study at drama school and are now working professionally in both theatre and television. Actors Owen Pullar and Mark Roberts and actor and technician Louise Manifold, veteran performers with regional theatre company, the Babbling Vagabonds will be lighting up the stage alongside current BYT members.
Tom’s various West End credits include Les Miserables, and he has also worked as a recording artist, supplying vocals to major films including Tomb Raider and Disney’s Atlantis, along with backing vocals on the albums of artists as diverse as Russell Watson and Bjork. He has also backed Robbie Williams on tour and starred in Jesus Christ Superstar, amongst many other top slots.
Tom said: “Bakewell Youth Theatre gave me and others like me our first training ground in professional theatre. To now have the opportunity to perform with the BYT cast in this Christmas 35th anniversary special is a real honour. I am, as always, slightly stunned by the calibre of the current Youth Theatre when I hear them – they’re better than we were and there are a lot more of them!”
Tonight’s performance starts at 7.30pm and tomorrow’s at 4pm. Tickets £10/£7.50 (family ticket £32 – two adults and two children). Tickets from the Medway or telephone 07875 593978.
