If you are not sure what a capella is, then it is about harmonies in which the human voice is used instead of musical instruments.

It has recently become hugely popular, helped by the film Pitch Perfect, a 2012 American musical comedy.

The Shaydes met when they were employed by Compact Theatre Company to tour four musical comedies at home and abroad. Now they have become a successful vocal harmony group in their own right, specialising in rock-apella, live playing and backing-track songs.

Their shows utilize their acting ability and talent for comedy and improvisation.Their current repertoire covers more than 60 songs, most of which have original arrangements written especially for them.

The line up is Mervyn Allcock, John Connolly, Steve Dolton, Phil Hurst and Terry Smith.

Their key influences are: Tamla Motown, The Commitments, soul, reggae, blues; Elvis Presley and classic pop.
