Sam set to stage special live shows

Derbyshire Times band of the year winner Sam Genders is best known for founding the alternative folk band Tunng and for his current pop project Diagrams.

After moving to London to pursue his dream of becoming a musician, he also met and married Sofia Hagberg, founder and director of the well known End of the Road and No Direction Home music festivals and together they have just moved back to the area and plan to promote some special music events together under the name ‘Sam and Sofia’.

The first of these will be folk guitar sensation John Smith at the Greystones, Sheffield on Thursday March 28th, a special afternoon gig with under the radar band Birthday Girl on Saturday March 30th at Matlock’s Duke William pub and world renowned blues and folk star Charlie Parr on Thursday May 30th, also at The Greystones.

Sam said: ““We’re really excited about being back in the area and about these shows. John Smith and Charlie Parr are both world class acts that have played big festivals and it will be very special to see them in a small venue. Then there’s our Matlock Duke William gig - ‘Quiet’ featuring Birthday Girl.

“They’re a new band with some very impressive music industry people tipping them for big things. This will be a totally acoustic performance with no P.A. to a very small audience - it’s going to be really special.”
