13 celebrities you won't believe have appeared in Chesterfield

Chesterfield's Pomegranate Theatre is celebrating its 70th birthday and to mark the anniversary we look at some of the big names who have trodden the boards in the town.

A surprising number of international stars who went on become household names cut their teeth in north Derbyshire and many wished the theatre a happy birthday

Lewis Collins (pictured right with fellow stars of The Professionals Martin Shaw and Gordon Jackson) made a string of appearances during the 1970-73 Pomegranate season
Brookside's Claire Sweeney was here in 2010 and 2013, she appeared in September In The Rain

Wilfrid Brambell (show here on the left with Steptoe and Son co-star Harry H. Corbett) appeared in a series of shows from 1954-56 including Othello and Aladin
Peter Sallis is best known on TV for Last of the Summer Wine, as well as voicing Wallace & Gromit. He appeared in several Pomegranate shows in 1949, including Hamlet and The Astonished Ostrich.
Donald Sutherland starred in The Eagle Has Landed, The Dirty Dozen and more recently The Hunger Games. In 1962 you would have found him in Chesterfield appearing in Anniversary Waltz
Penelope Keith is most famous for her roles in the Good Life. During 1959-60 she was in Chezzy productions as diverse as Gigi and Great Expectations.
Liz McClaron. The former Atomic Kitten pop star appeared in panto in 2016
David McCallum starred in The Man from UNCLE and, more recently, NCIS. In 1954 he showed his versatility in Chesterfield by appearing in Vanity Fair - and Aladin!
Diana Rigg lit up screens in The Avengers and more recently Game of Thrones. She made her stage debut at the Pomegrante in 1958
Oscar-winning star of Darkest Hour, Gary Oldman appeared in the Pomegrante's Entertaining Mr Sloane in 1983.
Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall appeared in Sleuth in 1996 at the Pomegranate
Screen star and father of acting dynasty Edward Fox appeared in rep at the Pomegranate in 1959/60
Joss Ackland featured in White Mischief and Hunt for Red October. In 1953 he was in Cinderella and Little Women in Chesterfield
