For he took third place overall at the Speyside stages in Elgin, Scotland for round two of the ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship.

Yates is looking forward to his third season in the BRC, which kicks off with the Pirelli International Rally at Carlisle on Saturday. And he’s certainly in good shape if his efforts to make the podium in a tough, 100-strong field in Scotland are anything to go by.

Although it was the 25-year-old’s first trip to the event, he and co-driver Alex Lee set their stall out early to clock a second fastest time in testing, and they never strayed out of the top three positions in each of the ten stages of the rally.

“I really enjoyed the event, which was the perfect way to kick-start our BRC season in the Skoda Fabia R5,” said a buoyant Yates.

“We got extra miles under our belts, and now we are right where we want to be. I am really excited about the prospect of the new BRC season getting under way.”

This season could be Yates’s best chance of glory in the BRC. He was fourth overall last year, but now has knowledge of all the events and additional experience.

“I really feel I’m ready more than I have ever been,” he said. “Everything has come together perfectly. My pace never stops improving.”
