Win takes Dev eight points clear

Killamarsh Juniors suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of relegation battlers Creswell Seniors on Sunday which means that leaders Hasland Devonshire, who beat ABM Birdholme WMC 3-1, have extended their advantage at the top of division one to eight points.

Creswell won 3-0 with Clay, Houghton and Gordon on target in Devonshire’s win, Ash Barber scoring a consolation goal for ABM in an exciting encounter.

In a basement battle in the second division Clowne Wanderers came out on top against Inky with an odd goal in three victory, Clarke netting both Wanderers goals.

If there were not many goals in the previous game there certainly was in the next as bottom side Laburnum were turned over by Dronfield Town who rattled in seven goals to Laburnum’s three.

Third division leaders AFC Brampton enhanced their title chances with a fine 4-2 victory over second-placed Wingerworth Barley Mow. A goal each from Cutts and Revill for WBM were overshadowed by strikes from Chris Graham, who scored twice and Christian Steer and Josh Hamson who scored once each.

If second-placed WBM are disappointed with their defeat, third-placed Talbot will be thoroughly depressed as opponents Grouse Old Boys put seven passed them, N Fieldhouse and C Scattergood scoring two apiece, B Bassett, A Moreton and G Morris doing Talbot’s own title aspirations no good whatsoever.

Only one game took place in the fourth division with Midland Hotel recording an emphatic 6-0 win at Clowne Wanderers Reserves. On target for the Midland were Williams, Singh, Handysides, Bullement, Travis and Joynson.

Division five leaders Highfield were held to a 3-3 draw by an enterprising Poolsbrook side for whom Stuart Grainger scored twice and Gareth Bally once. D Keenan with two and J Foster doing the same for Highfield.

Second-placed Charlies Bar gained two points on them thanks to a 5-1 win over Riverside United. Kyle Green, Aaron Large, Steve Rogers, Gary Siddall and Chris Bluff were the Champagne Charlies on this occasion.

Third-placed Black Swan stay on course for promotion after Adam Wragg, Ben Marsh and Ben Cooke earned them a 3-0 win at North Wingfield.

Scarlets Nightscene were the other winners in five, their victory came against Chesterfield Town whom they beat 2-0, Richard Barnett and Adam Josephs with the goals.

Division six leaders New Inn Newton won while second-placed Dronfield Woodhouse drew New Inn’s win over Brimington Club was by a 3-1 margin, White, Webster and an own goal.

Woodhouse were at Hasland Community for whom Joe Stevens and Kingsley Nisbeth scored, two P Morton goals evening things up for Woodhouse.

Third-placed Butchers Arms also drew this time 3-3 with Cock and Magpie. Darren Davies scored twice for Arms, Carl Newell once, Paul Buxton scoring a couple for C&M, D Locke one.

Dronfield Town Reserves were top scorers in the division, putting five past Barlow Kingston Rovers, Mark Reid, Lewis Holdsworth, Mike Brady and Dominic Brady for Town.

Gate Inn also won this time R Kirk, twice, T Wallace and A Marriott on the scorers list against Palterton Sporting.

Renishaw MW were red hot favourites to lift the division seven title and that was before they thumped Miners and Diners 8-2.

Leading the way for Renishaw was Blakemore who hit four of his side’s goals, Pleweki also weighed in with a couple in a victory that puts Renishaw 13 points clear at the top.

Hopflower United are beginning to pull away at the top of seven and if they perform like they did against White Swan Reserves on Sunday they will undoubtedly stay there.

Swan had no answer to United’s fine attacking play and they were overwhelmed as Taylor scored three, Duberman two, Weaver two, Whittaker, Conroy, Smith and Skellen in an 11-goal romp.

Third-placed Grassmoor Sports Reserves picked up three valuable points as goals from Andy Woolvern who scored twice, Bignall and Carline earned them a 4-0 victory at Boot and Shoe. A Goal each from Bramall, Chester and Peters saw Chesterfield Phoenix win 3-0 at Grouse, their sixth win of the season.
