Weather hits fixtures but Cromford go third

Midlands Regional Alliance

The weather was once again the main winner in the MRA last weekend with several games falling victim to waterlogged pitches.

Some matches did survive, however. Willington are two points behind leaders Melbourne Dynamo in the Premier Division after a 4-1 victory at Matlock Sports. Ex-Notts County man Dan Martin scored twice for Willington, with the others coming from Brett O’Donnell and sub Andrew Ross.

In the only other Premier Division game to beat the weather, goals from Anthony Fay (2) and Scott Gascoyne were enough to secure Cromford a 3-1 win at Allestree to climb up to third.

Two Junior Cup ties also went ahead, one of them seeing Matlock Town CFA spring a surprise with a 2-1 win at Derby Singh Brothers, Josh Spencer and sub Jamie Smith netting the goals.

The Challenge Cup takes place this coming weekend with Matlock Sports travelling to Newhall United.

Among the league highlights will be Ambergate hosting Derby Singh Brothers in Division One along with Rowsley 86 Reserves entertaining Wirksworth Ivanhoe. In Division Two, Wirksworth Town Reserves will visit Bargate Reserves, Matlock Town CFA will host Pastures Reserves and Ambergate Reserves will go to Roe Farm.
