Carol Wengraf has scooped a European gold medal at the grand age of 72.
Carol, from Hathersage, battled her way to first place in the veterans European fencing championship in northern France.
Seeded second after the group bouts, she beat team-mate Connie Adam 10-2 in the semi-finals before defeating another team-mate Janet Cooksey 10-5 to win the title.
Carol won a second medal in the epee event, reaching the semi-finals where she lost to Hemplemann of Germany to collect bronze.
The Hope Valley ace sprang to prominence as a 65-year-old by become European 60-plus sabre champion for the first time in 2003.
Individual veterans European championships are held every two years and she retained her title in 2005, winning the silver medal in 2007.
She celebrated entering the 70-plus category in 2009 by winning gold in the sabre event and bronze in epee, a feat she repeated this year in Henin-Beaumont near Lens.
