The meeting, to be shown on ITV4, is his debut appearance in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup Championship, having competed in the junior equivalent for the past two seasons.

The 17-year-old has also switched to a new, more powerful Ginetta G55 race car and is hoping to develop his burgeoning racing career even more.

“My last two seasons have been fantastic,” said Perez. “I learned a lot, so I hope the experience will come in handy when it comes to getting more podium positions in the new car.

“I have a great team behind me in JHR Developments, and I’m really looking forward to getting back out on the track.”

University student Perez, whose father Steve was a rally champion, made the transition from rallying to racing in 2014. He finished tenth after 25 rounds of the junior championship last season, winning one race.

The omens are good for the new campaign. Of three official test sessions at Brands Hatch earlier this month, he was in the top five of 16 drivers present, showing speed and fighting spirit. He lapped the Indy circuit at the track in 47.859 seconds with a top speed of 105.3mph.
