Table tennis star Liam Pitchford marched in to the quarter finals at Baku 2015 European Games.
A 4-2 win over Slovakia’s Wang Yang (11-6 11-4 11-5 6-11 5-11 14-12) set up a last eight match with Lei Kou of Ukraine today (June 18).
The Chesterfield ace, 21, said: “I knew it was going to be a tough match before I went out, I’ve played him before and lost.
“I thought I started really well and was probably playing some of the best table tennis that I have played over this year.
“I knew he was going to try something different and he did and I stuck in there in the end and kept fighting and I’m happy to get through.
“In the end I was playing a bit slower instead of with more power and he was making some cheap mistakes and I got it.
“It’s amazing to be able to play for Team GB again and pull on the shirt and I’m in the quarter finals, which is a big achievement so hopefully I can go even further.”
