Success for Rykneld swimmers

Kelsie Geary '“ with three golds and a silver '“ and bronze medallist Ryan Huddart led the six-strong Rykneld team at the Midland Regional Championships at Ponds Forge.

Kelsie was named overall top girl in another boost for the Clay Cross club.

Other team members were Laura Mitchell, Jordon Chawner Wright, Andy Hopkinson, and Adam Lievesley. All but Adam, who was suffering from a rolled ankle, made at least one final.

Ryan knocked 30 seconds off his personal best to take the 1500m freestyle bronze medal, Jordon lowered her 50m butterfly best for the first time in more than a year and Laura qualified for her first regional final in the 200m breaststroke.

Head coach Matt Smithurst said: “They should all be really proud and I hope we can build on this.”

At the end of May three younger members swam to personal best times at the regional championships for younger swimmers in Corby.

Tom Trueman and Luca Tramontano made the finals at their first regional championships. Kian Mills, swimming as an 11-year-old in the 11/12 years category, was the fourth fastest 11-year-old in both his events.
