Ripley Rhinos

2nd XV 24,

Belper 3rds 0

Rhinos finished their rugby for 2011 with a straightforward win against an honest Belper 3rd XV.

A strong scrum base gave Rhinos the platform for their win with first half tries from fly half Matt Upton and outside centre Danny Rymell, second row Liam Porter converting one.

The second half saw an ebb and flow until Ripley scored twice in three minutes to seal the game through inside centre Anton Brown and Rymell notching his second. Upton’s conversion gave them a 24-0 win.

Outside centre Danny Rymell was again the best Rhino on the park and took the BAB Plumbing and Heating man of the match award from his team mates.

Ripley Rhinos Ladies 5,

Doncaster Demons 54

Rhino Ladies battled hard but were ultimately outplayed by Doncaster Demons Ladies in this league fixture.

Doncaster scored four first half tries through their pace and handling while Ripley replied with one coming from a series of attacks culminating in inside-centre Jade Sheldon diving over to score her first for the club.

26-5 down at half-time, Ripley knew they were up against it as they tired in the cold and so it proved as the visitors ran in another four tries. Ripley finished the game hammering at the Doncaster line but not able to find a second score as they went down to a 54-5 loss.

It was a credit to both sides that a game was played in the conditions and circumstances and Ripley tried hard but were thoroughly outplayed by their visitors.

The Rhino players and spectators gave the player of the match award to skipper Liz Trubee.
