Sustainable energy is what Chesterfield Panthers U13s’ new sponsors, NIBE, specialise in. And it seemed to rub off on them when they celebrated a much-welcomed win over Ilkeston.
Panthers christened the new kit that NIBE has bought them by beating Ilkeston 33-5 in a floodlit Friday night game at Dunston. And they are hoping it means their form has turned the corner.
Attacking from the off, they opened the scoring with a try from Nathan Bottomley and a conversion from Ethan Bradshaw before continuing to dominate the scrums.
The visitors hit back, but more second-half pressure told as Bottomley ran in two tries, followed by a couple from Bradshaw, who also kicked three conversions.
Two days later, Panthers’ U14s could not emulate the success as they sank to a 58-12 defeat at home to well-organised Ashby. After a slow start, however, they did rally, with man-of-the-match Ewan Mackenzie sprinting 40 yards for a cracking try.
