Frustrated Tupton edged out

Tupton faced the daunting task of attempting to halt Ashfield’s march to the Midlands Division Four East (North) title.

The north Derbyshire side made the short journey across the border to face an unbeaten Nottinghamshire opponent.

Tupton were guilty of an early error that led to the hosts going over inside the first five minutes only for Brett Marriott to reduce the arrears for the visitors.

He made no mistake with his kick and Tupton were in the ascendency, chances to extend the lead came and went.

Ashfield were penalised for flying over the top and Marriott added the points with a kick to edge Tupton ahead.

Ashfield made them pay when their fly-half kicked a drop goal to make it 8-6 and despite some late attempts from Marriott that’s the way it stayed.
