Rugby league touches down in High Peak
Buxton Bulls RLFC make their maiden outing this weekend, looking to make a big impact on the town’s sporting landscape.
The newly-formed side entertain Bury Broncos on Saturday (2.30pm) and team manager and founder Tommy McGuigan says that the appetite for the 13-a-side code within the area has been refreshing.
He said: “The turnout at training has been really good.
“We’ve got a squad of around 20 to 25 for this first game.
“There seems to be a real buzz about the Buxton Bulls, not just in Buxton but all over Derbyshire.
“We are getting players from all over the county and beyond.
“We are always on the lookout for new players though, so if you have ever fancied playing or like the idea of giving it a go please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.”
The club will be based out of Sunnyfields at Harpur Hill, the home of Buxton RUFC, after the two clubs came to an agreement earlier this year.
The club are also appealing for potential sponsors to come forward after securing deals with Catena Lifting Solutions, who will sponsor the club’s kit.
Other partnerships have been tied up with the Buxton branch of the GMB Union, who will sponsor match and training balls, whilst Lee Orton of ROC Construction has supplied club polo shirts.
Those interested in being part of the club in either a playing, coaching or sponsorship capacity, should contact Tommy on 07742895082.
• The club has so far confirmed 11 fixtures for the 2014 season, with more to follow.
