Tupton Rugby Club has received an accolade for the hard work it has put in promoting the sport.
At the club’s presentation evening, chairman Dave Brignull collected the Tigger Evans Memorial Plaque from Derbyshire Rugby president Russ Boyak.
The plaque is presented every year to the club in Derbyshire which promoted rugby to the whole community and made the most progressing the game.
A delighted and proud Dave said: “This is an extremely proud moment for me personally and the club as a whole and marks another milestone as we try and build a stronger club for the future.”
The presentation took place when mre than 150 members and friends came together to celebrate Tupton’s best-ever season.
Each mini/junior member was presented with a commemorative medal to mark a season that has seen the section continue to grow steadily with five teams now being fielded from U7 up to U13 level.
The seniors have been extremely competitive with the first XV finishing third in the Midlands 4 League, the seconds gaining promotion from the Merit League and an occasional 3rd team running out on eight occasions.
Individual awards were presented to players who had achieved improvement or passed significant milestones during the season including 1st XV captain Lee Marriott who has completed ten years in the role and secretary Bob Curry who has completed 15 years as the club’s principal administrator.
