For when spinner Brian Gladwin took his first wicket in the winning draw against Alvaston and Boulton at Queen’s Park, it was his 500th for the club in Derbyshire Premier League and Cup competitions, and his 600th in all his appearances.

Gladwin, a hugely popular figure at Chesterfield, has been with the club all his life and has always given 100 per cent to every game he has played. He has taken five wickets in an innings ten times, and his best figures are 6-42.

Club chairman Mike Taylor said: “This is a monumental achievement by Brian. He has been a loyal servant to the club for too many years for me to disclose.

“The whole club and the general cricketing community will be genuinely thrilled for him. He is a great character and a great cricketer.

“Brian was awarded the Jim Brailsford Chalice at last year’s awards evening for commitment to the club. I would like to congratulate him and thank him for everything he has done for the club over the years.”
