Record-breaking haul of medals for Chesterfield Swimming Club at British Championships

The more experienced members of Chesterfield Swimming Club are celebrating after achieving a record haul of medals at the British Seniors and Masters Championships at the Ponds Forge International Pool in Sheffield.

Competition over the three-day tournament was fierce, with British, European and world records broken. But Chesterfield swimmers performed exceptionally well, gaining 29 golds, 18 silvers and 16 bronzes, as well as setting eight new Midland records. They also bagged a top-ten finish in almost every event.

The winners inbcluded David Bradford, who pocketed his first individual national gold medal. Special credit should also go to Ben Harkin and Liz Kiss for their silver-medal individual performances, to Steve Goodall for his individual Midland record and to all the team for numerous lifetime bests.

Masters coach Jack Chambers said “The weekend was incredible. They all performed above expectations. What they have achieved is unbelievable. We are all very proud and looking forward to the European Championships during May in London.”

The masters section of the club has organised a Motown evening charity fundraiser at the Casa Hotel in Chesterfield on Friday, June 10.
