Turner and Bishop, took the front and turned up the pace with three laps to go, stretching the peloton and providing opportunity for Sutton to select his position in the final sprint. Sutton finished 9th and Turner 10th with Andy Bishop close behind despite a final corner melee where one rider crashed.

Andy said: “We were all set up for the finish, when a guy went down in front of me but with a bit of cyclo-cross skills I rode round on the grass and managed to latch back on.”

Team manager Andy Moore praised the race organisers for a “fantastic event” and he is looking forward to further success.

Also on Sunday, Matlock Cycling Club riders competed for points in the hilly time trial from Lea involving two laps of the six-mile course.
