RACELINE: TIP OF THE DAY

Start the weekend with this tasty each/way proposition from the tipping stable of Scoop Racing (Richard Silverwood):

Saturday September 29

JOHNNY CASTLE

Newmarket 4.50 EACH/WAY

William Haggas’s Cape Classic is likely to be all the rage for what is a competitive 7f handicap after an impressive victory at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting last time. But I’m keen on this four-year-old, who caught the eye by running on strongly to finish third in that same race and now has an 8lb pull for a four-length beating. Normally, that might not be enough but Amanda Perrett’s gelding is sure to be better suited by the extra half-furlong and stiffer track and also sure to improve again for his performance on Town Moor, which was first his sign of form since changing stables. Last season, he was a progressive, consistent sort for John Gosden, running well off this same handicap mark, so it’s significant that Perrrett has booked William Buick, who got on so well with him in 2011, for the ride today.
