RACELINE: Tip of the day - 2nd November

Hope you were all on yesterday’s winner. What a ride by Graham Lee!

Friday November 2

ARDLUI

Newmarket 3.55 WIN

It might seem bonkers to tip a horse carrying top weight of 10-0 in a 2m slog in the mud on Newmarket’s stiff Rowley Mile course. But unless he was confident of winning it, I cannot believe that trainer Alan King would bother wasting his time with this late-season contest on the Flat when his four-year-old is clearly primed, and well-handicapped, for a return to hurdles. The son of Galileo was a promising juvenile hurdler last year but has shown much-improved form on the level in recent weeks, thanks largely to successful breathing and gelding operations. At Chester in September, he gave a scare to Countrywide Flame, who went on to run a blinder in the Cesarewitch. And at Ascot last month, he was beaten only by a progressive younger horse receiving 19lbs in the weights, with an eight-length gap back to the third. I have no doubt he is the best horse in this race, for which the galloping track on soft ground ought to be right up his street.
