Raceline: Tip of the Day 24th November

Heavy rain continues to plague the racing programme. Thankfully the big two Saturday meetings at Haydock and Ascot have survived.

Saturday 24th November

PEPITE ROSE

Ascot 3.20 WIN

Trainer Venetia Williams decided against a tilt at the Paddy Power Gold Cup for her smart five-year-old chaser last weekend. But on the mare’s seasonal debut at this track last month, she proved she is primed for another successful campaign thanks to a highly satisfactory effort in a Listed handicap over an inadequate trip. She travelled sweetly and despite blowing up turning for home, she kept on behind a winner receiving a massive 26lb. Formerly trained in France by the brilliant Guillaume Macaire, the mare tackles the same 2m1f distance today but that should be offset by the testing ground, on which she won twice earlier in her career. Highly regarded, she made such dramatic progress last term that she ended up contesting a Grade One novice event at Aintree against the likes of Paddy Power Gold Cup winner Al Ferof, Cristal Bonus and Menorah.
