Prize money climbing towards £100,000

With ever-bigger prizes now on offer in high profile angling competitions, will next year see the first six-figure sum for a successful winning angler?

Following the ‘Match This’ final last August, the team at Maver (UK) are preparing to make 2012’s event even better, with high hopes of presenting next year’s winner with a cheque for a possible £100,000!

The first ever winner of the competition, 23-year-old Andy Power who fishes for Preston Innovations, received a cheque for £50,000 when he bagged first place in the final held at Maver Larford Lakes.

Andy landed 39.78 kg of carp and F1 hybrids with Grant Albutt (Garbolino) finishing a close second with 37.1kg.

Next year’s competition will be run using a similar format as the 2011 campaign, with 24 qualifier events scheduled to take place up and down the country between April 7 and August 12, 2012.

Local fisheries hosting qualifiers are: Garbolino Lindholme Lakes at Doncaster; Hallcroft in Notts; The Oaks Fishing Lakes again in Donny and Makins over in Warwickshire.

It’s £50 per qualifier and anglers are able to enter as many qualifiers as they wish.

The final to be held at Larford Lakes is planned for September 1, with a team-orientated event on September 2.

Tickets go on sale January 1 via the Official ‘Match This’ website

Another huge match where you have to use the Internet to book tickets is the prestigious Fish ‘O’ Mania 2012.

Details are available by clicking to the Angling Trust website, and following the Fish‘O’ Mania on-line entry process.

This will be available from Tuesday, January 17, to Tuesday, February 7, for just a three-week period.

The Angling Trust website will be the only means by which anglers can enter the Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifiers and anyone wishing to take part must have an active individual membership when they apply.

Qualifiers in ‘casting distance’ are: Makins; Lakeview Fishery, Leicestershire; Peatling Pools, Leicestershire; The Oaks at Thirsk; Messingham Sands in North Lincs; Woodlands Lakes, Thirsk and Garbolino Lindholme Lakes.

Are you good enough? They’re tough competitions, but remember, you’ve got to be in it to win it!
