Pitchford loses out to World no. 13 at Korean Open

World No 13 Youngsik Jeoung was too strong for Liam Pitchford at the Korean Open.

The Chesterfield Olympian, ranked 50 in the world, lost 4-1 (11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 13-11) to his opponent from the host country in the last 32.

The tournament is one of the strongest competitions of the year, featuring 16 of the world’s top 20 players.

Pitchford, 22, earlier beat Japan’s Yukiya Uda 4-2 and Korea’s Jonghoon Lim by the same score in the preliminary rounds, coming from 2-0 down in the latter match.

In the doubles, Pitchford and Team GB colleague Sam Walker, seeded 11th, were beaten 3-2 (11-9, 11-6, 6-11, 9-11, 11-8) in the last 16 of the doubles by seventh seeds Woojin Jang & Ganghyeon Park of Korea.
