Matlock AC runners take part in latest virtual race

Matlock AC runners took part in another virtual race, this time to mark the cancelled Masters’ Road Relay Championships

The event was for UK Athletics affiliated clubs with an optional donation to MacMillan Nurses charity, with a total of over £12,000 raised from 4,140 entries.

The event replicated the 10 year age bands for masters – 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65-74, 75+ for Men and Women, with most opting to run the 5k course from home.

Colin Davenport was the first Matlock runner home in the M35-44 category in 17.54 in a field of 814.

He was followed by John Thorpe 18.44, Ian Watson 18.54, Dennis Belbin 20.49, Dan Ashcroft 21.15. John Hopkinson 23.02.

In the M45-54 category Chris Gillott 20.00 was first back, followed by Andy Mellor 20.18 and Jonathan Tyson 21.15 in a field of 682.

In the M55-64 Simon Croft 20.33 was the fastest Matlock man, followed by Dennis Holmes 24.22 in a field of 349. In the M65-74 Tony Barrable 19.55 led the way followed by Les Thurston 25.49 in a field of 131. The winner overall was Paul Martelletti in 14.41.

For the Ladies – In the W45-54 Catherine Else 24.44 led the club home in a field of 431 runners.

In the W55-64 Ellie Salomoni clocked 26.37 in a field of 205. In the W65-74 category Jan Forrester 25.32 led the way, followed by Judith Holt 27.55, Tessa Jackson 29.15 and Ann Armistead 30.21 in a field of 46 runners. The lady winner overall was Elizabeth Davies in 16.54.

In the virtual Whitworth Thread, There were 26 runners, all undertaking their own 5k route, mostly from home.

The fastest time overall was by Colin Davenport, posting an impressive 17:54. Other male runner results included Ian Watson’s PB of 28:54 to take the MV40 category, Chris Gillott, with bang on 20 minutes, to shine in the MV50, and an ever-impressive Tony Barrable posting 19:55 to take the MV60 honours.

For the ladies, Lisa Jones posted the fastest time and took the ladies win in 23:38, Kathryn Berrisford led the FV40 in 24:05 (with Jo Lloyd only a few seconds behind), and Jan Forrester claimed first FV60 in 25:31.

The MAC j uniors continue to impress with Oliver Lloyd smashing out an impressive 19:33, followed by great runs from Jacob Jones and Logan Fairey .
