Nominate your sports heroes

THE Derbyshire Times has launched its first ever sports awards to highlight the achievements of the unsung community heroes of all ages, from the groundsman of a junior soccer squad to the local hope for the future.

We will be holding an awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 26, at the B2net Stadium, to celebrate the local sporting achievements.

Nominate by emailing emma.angell@jpress.co.uk with the category you are wishing to nominate for along with supporting information and evidence.

Alternatively you can post your nomination to Sports Awards, Promotions Department, Derbyshire Times, 37 Station Road, Chesterfield, S41 7XD. Deadline for all entries is Friday, June 8.

The ten categories are as follows:

Sports Personality of the Year: To recognise an outstanding individual who has achieved excellence and has represented their town, county or country.

Junior Sports Personality of the Year: This award is to recognise an individual under the age of 21 where their sporting achievements in the past 12 months have made them worthy of the accolade.

Disabled Sports Personality of the Year: To reward an individual who has excelled in their given sport.

Lifetime Achievement Award: To recognise an individual who has either achieved in sport or who has helped others to fulfil their potential.

Unsung Hero: This award is for someone who will have given time and care to help an individual or club without looking for personal gain.

Amateur Coach/Manager of the Year: This award is to give recognition to a person who has demonstrated leadership and has improved the level of performance of a team, club, school or individual.

Hope for the Future: To reward an individual who has a bright future in sport regardless of age or attainment.

Outstanding Sporting Moment: This award is for a person that has in the last 12 months produced a significant sporting performance at a local or national level.

Team of the Year: To reward a team who have achieved to a level that has made them proud. This could be an age classified team or one who represents a club, school or college at a junior or senior level.

Amateur Sports Club of the Year: To reward the club which has done the most to bring together people of all ages and abilities to participate in sport and benefit from a club environment.
