Racing team warm up for new season in Spain

Dronfield racer Gary Wilson and his team of three Moto3 riders spent four days testing at the circuit at Cartagena, Spain, alongside the British Superbike teams.

Wilson Racing compete in the Moto3 Hel Performance Motostar British Championship standard class and are hoping to build on the success of their first year when riders finished fourth and eighth in the series.

For 2017, Max Cook and Tom Alexander have joined Charlie Atkins to form a three-rider team.

The riders spent the first day in Cartagena getting used to the bikes. Thirteen-year-old Charlie Atkins, who had a fall on the final day but was released from hospital a few hours later, improved throughout the test.

Max Cook, 14, was quickly up to speed on the standard Honda and looked accomplished, whileTom Alexander also did well as he recovers from a nasty leg break in 2016.

Gary Wilson said: “The test has proved usefu. The riders haven’t been on their Moto3 machines since October, so they have had the opportunity to reacquaint themselves.

“Charlie [Atkins] rode for me last year and is thankfully OK after his fall, but it was my first opportunity to see Max [Cook] and Tom [Alexander] on one of my bikes.

The one-day official BSB test at Donington is a week before the first race at the circuit, from 31st March-2nd April.
