Vaughan Fletcher made a strong return to defend his championship title, with third and first place finishes in the BARC Thunder Saloon Championship at a rain-soaked Silverstone.
The Chesterfield driver competed in the first two rounds of the championships at the world renowned Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire in treacherous conditions on March 28/29.
He began with a third place finish before expressing his dominance with a comfortable win over his nearest competitors by more than 15 seconds.
Having taken the lead early on in the second race of the weekend, Fletcher went back and fourth in to second place on a couple of occasions before taking the lead and proceeded to cross the line unchallenged as the rest of the field struggled for grip to the wet track.
Despite the conditions, which were hampered further as oil fell on track, Fletcher said he enjoyed a return to the driver’s seat.
“That was fun,” he said. “I want all the races to be like that.”
The race was live on Motors TV on Sunday afternoon and, with rounds at Castle Combe, Mallory Park, Donington, Brands Hatch, Pembrey, Snetterton and Thruxton still to come, Fletcher will be hopeful of continuing his form throughout the British Automobile Racing Club series.
Fletcher achieved a lifetime goal last October when he secured his first championship title in the BARC Thunder Saloon Championship.
