Kick Energy rally driver Steve Perez, from Chesterfield, made his trip over to Sweden worthwhile when he took a class victory on this weekend’s Midnight Sun Rally.
In the Lancia Stratos along with Welsh co driver Paul Spooner, the pair enjoyed a trouble free run in the iconic 1974 Italian machine to claim 27th position overall on the two day event.
More importantly Perez scored second place points in the Gentleman’s World Rally Class (G-WRC) which he is contesting this year and now shares the lead with friend and rival Geoff Bell who finished 17th overall in the Kick Energy Ford Escort.
Perez said: “We enjoyed a trouble-free run and I’m pleased with the result.
“It took me a little while to get used to the car again and if I’m being honest I was a little nervous after my accident in Ypres.
“I’m pleased that Geoff took a Kick Energy car to a good result and congratulations to him on securing maximum G-WRC points which means we are now tied at the top of the table! It’s a shame for Andrew Siddall who retired his Ford Escort and I’ll have to ensure I’m on top of my game for the remaining rounds.”
The rally was won by former Indy Car race winner Kenny Brack.
