McMahon set to miss game at Stamford on Saturday

Matlock Town’s Lewis McMahon won’t be able to build on his brace from last weekend against King’s Lynn when the Gladiators travel to Stamford on Saturday.

A groin injury forced him off late on in the 2-0 win, McMahon having scored both goals.

That could give Shaun Tuton the opportunity to partner Danny Holland once again, Tuton coming on for Daryll Thomas two thirds of the way through last weekend’s win.

Matlock boss Mark Atkins said: “Lewis has had a tough season through injuries and hasn’t been able to find his best form but we know he’s got the quality and knows where the goal is.

“Shaun hadn’t trained all week and after his hamstring injury we didn’t want to risk him too much on a muddy pitch but when he came on I felt he gave us something extra.”

Meanwhile, The Gladiators will now play Buxton twice in the final month of the season.

Their clash at the Silverlands was abandoned at half-time on Boxing Day through floodlight failure and had originally been rearranged for Wednesday February 26.

But Buxton’s home meeting with Stamford was called off last weekend through an unfit pitch and has now been set for February 26, meaning that the A6 derby will now take place at the Silverlands on Wednesday, April 9.

The return match at the Reynolds Stadium is currently set to be Matlock’s last home game of the season on Saturday, April 21.
