LEFT back Matt Steade, from Eckington, has been offered a one-year professional contract with Championship side Barnsley after completing a two-year scholarship with the Oakwell club.
Matt, pictured left, said he had realised his boyhood dream of becoming a professional footballer.
In addition to the contract offer, Matt has emerged as the second fittest youth player in the whole of England. Along with 9,000 others, Matt was tested for speed, power, agility and endurance and came out second overall.
During his time as a scholar, Matt has played on numerous occasions for the reserves side.
