There are 13 local running teams in the keenly-contested league and this occasion was no different.

Prone to flooding, the muddy conditions made for tough going underfoot but Matlock thrived under pressure and pulled out some outstanding performances.

Colin Davenport, who was seventh overall, produced Matlock’s first top ten position and Simon Brister won the MV60 category.

In a field of 202 runners and with a team ranging in age from 14 to 71, there were some impressive results across the board from Matlock AC.

Matlock’s men’s team finished fourth overall - a team record, and the mens/ladies combined team finished third overall - also a record.

Matlock’s Clive Russell and Jan Forester won the MV70 and LV60 categories respectively, claiming the overall trophies in the process having only needed to win three of the five races to do so.

Meanwhile, Matlock AC will be creating a festive feel for their next monthly run for its members and the local community, as always held in the Whitworth Park.

It will take place on Saturday, December 14 from 9am, and there will be free cakes, mince pies, teas and coffees for all of those who complete the run.

The regular 5k events, held on the second Saturday of each month, are open to runners of all standards, with a voluntary £1 donation for the Whitworth Trust charity.

Runners have so far donated £191 from the races so far.

More details can be found on the Matlock AC website and the Whitworth Thread Facebook page.
