Lester's message for young forward echoes the words of predecessor Caldwell

According to the manager all Delial Brewster has to do to force his way back into first team action is outwork his fellow forwards.

The young striker’s situation at the club has been a source of much debate among supporters who have questioned why so little has been seen of the 19-year-old.

He signed in the summer, having been released by Everton, but has played just 59 minutes of competitive action.

Brewster has found himself behind fellow attackers Chris O’Grady, Kristian Dennis, Gozie Ugwu and more recently loan signing Diego De Girolamo in the Proact pecking order.

Lester has echoed the words of his predecessor Gary Caldwell, who challenged Brewster to improve his work-rate and physicality.

The current Town boss, who late last week recalled another of his teenage forwards – Ricky German – from his loan at Alfreton, says there is a way into the team for Brewster.

“I’ve seen him a few times in training,” he told the Derbyshire Times.

“There’s people ahead of him at the minute but it’s not a big squad and if he works harder than the others and improves quicker than the others he’ll play.”
