Jason Fearn finished a 23-year association with Princes Sports Club - formerly Brampton Manor - on a high by clinching promotion and the Derbyshire Squash Division One title.
Former club coach Fearn was part of the seconds side that needed only three points against rivals Duffield’s thirds to secure the league title and won 3-1 in his game.
Seconds skipper Nick Melton was first on court and took a 2-0 lead before his opponent shrugged off a dislocated shoulder to turn the match on its head with a 3-2 win.
He was followed by Fearn’s swan song before Steve Barker won 3-2 for Princes and there were useful experiences for up-and-coming youngsters Joe Thomas and Henry Wall.
Princes’ first team, captained by Phil Scully, needed nine points on the night against a strong Repton team to ensure they could not be caught by rivals, Duffield, in second.
Talented youngster Matt Barton started the campaign with a close 3-0 victory, which seemed to inspire Charlie Wall, Scully and Brendan Hickerman to follow with 3-0 wins over players that usually prove to be tricky opponents.
Alex Cutts sealed the team’s victory at number one with a 3-1 win to take the Derbyshire Squash Premier League championship.
Both the first and seconds from Princes will compete in the top division next season and have encouraged all supporters to attend their Thursday night matches.
The team will be hopeful of continuing this form in to the Arthur Catherine Cup Final on April 19 to complete a memorable double.
