Congratulations are due to Chesterfield table tennis player Isobel Ashley, writes Mel Buxton.
For Isobel (14) reached the final of the East Midlands Four Star Cadet tournament at the weekend.
Isobel, the Chesterfield League player who has trained with England, had a brilliant win in the competition’s semi-final at Grantham.
Ranked No 2, Isobel beat England’s No 1 cadet Tin-Tin Ho.
In the final Isobel came up against Welsh Commonwealth Games representative Charlotte Carey and although played exceptionally well lost 3-0.
Isobel hails from Barrow Hill, attends Netherthorpe School and plays in Division One for the Colin Deaton Academy.
Meanwhile, the Derbyshire Schools’ Table Tennis Association individuals tournaments for junior and secondary schools will be held on Tuesday, February 8, and Friday February 11 in the Springwell Community School Sports Hall.
This is part of the English Schools’ TTA Individual Championships and the winners are invited to represent Derbyshire in the National Finals held on Saturday, April 16, at the Dome, Doncaster Leisure Centre.
The U11 (Years 4, 5 and 6) and U19 events (Years 12, 13 and 14) will be held on Tuesday, February 8.
The U13 (Year 7 and 8) and the U16 events (Year 9, 10 and 11) will be held on Friday, February 11.
Closing date for entries is Tuesday, February 1.
