Hollingwood pull off huge shock

Second division Hollingwood produced possibly the biggest shock of the season so far as they dumped unbeaten first division leaders Hasland Devonshire out of the Dey and Co Alma Cup via a penalty shoot-out.

Not only are Devonshire topping the first division table they have also reached the final of the Derbyshire Senior Sunday Cup while Hollingwood are challenging for a second consecutive promotion and now a possible league and cup double.

Vernon scored twice, Mowberry once for Hollingwood in the 120 minutes of open play, Clay, twice, Kirkland once for Devonshire.

Mill Madrid also made progress as M Wain’s two goals saw off the challenge of Laburnum.

Highfield progressed in the Ace Sports Chatsworth Cup J Foster, D Keenan, J Simpson and J Wilkes scoring in a 4-2 victory over Chesterfield Arms.

In the Mill Hutson Cup Renishaw MW brushed aside the challenge of Grassmoor Sports, J Pleweki hitting three, A Blakemore two in a 7-0 score line.

In the league’s first division Brampton Rovers beat Creswell Seniors 3-0 and moved from the foot of the table as well, ABM Birdholme WMC replacing them and ABM have played a game more. Doe Lea took the lead at White Swan through Dave Chambers, James Senior levelling for Swan as both sides had to settle for a point.

Eckington Boys kept the pressure on at the top of two as Hutchinson scored three times in a 7-1 victory over New Whitt.

Tibshelf Town were beaten 2-0 by Clowne Wanderers, Richardson and Woodall the scorers which left the way clear for Elton, who beat Hady Bridge 5-2 to move above them into second place. O’Neil and Porter both scored twice in Elton’s win. Lokomotive Athletic were also winners, Longmore and Nash on target in a 2-1 victory over Inky.

AFC Brampton’s fine form in three continued with the leaders beating Ark Tavern 3-0 Josh Hamson scoring twice Chris Graham once. Second and third placed Brampton Anchor and Oxcroft MW both drew, Anchor 2-2 with Grouse Old Boys, Oxcroft 1-1 with Creswell Rose and Crown.

Three Horse Shoes won 5-1 in division four to move to within a point of leaders Rowthorne Lane SC who didn’t play. Ryan Varley and Ryan Whittaker both scored twice in the win.

Crown Inn Killamarsh played very well to earn a point in a 3-3 draw with high flyers North Star, A Bailey, A Green and R Dye scoring for Crown, T Marshall, J Shearan and J Capuano for Star.

Charlies Bar could have gone level on points with division five leaders Highfield however third-placed Poolsbrook put a spanner in the works by turning them over 6-1, Stuart Grainger scoring twice, Jake Bexton going one better, scoring three.

Riverside Utd are still searching for that elusive first win of the season but they did claim a point from their game with Hunloke Arms and kept a clean sheet in the process.

Andy Lunn scored with a superb free kick for Red Lon against Barrow Hill MC, the only goal of the game. Devonshire’s P Boswell scored once as did opponents North Wingfield’s J Crilley.

New Inn Newton retained the division six leadership following their 3-0 victory over Palterton Sporting Club, Ben Blackburn with two of the goals.

Second-placed Dronfield Woodhouse were held to a 3-3 draw by Hasland Community for whom, S Thurman, J Stevens and K Nisbeth scored, Bob Edwards, Nick Hooper and Phil Morton doing likewise for Woodhouse. Victories have been hard to come by for bottom club Barlow Kingston Rovers this season but they got one on Sunday, Styles scoring twice in a 2-1 win over second from bottom Brimington Club.

A seven-goal thriller at Cock and Magpie saw visitors Butchers Arms claim the spoils with a 4-3 victory, Griffiths, Bryn, Renshaw and Hamilton on target for the Arms. M Robinson scored the only goal of the game for Dronfield Town Reserves at Barracuda and Bull and Badger also won, 3-1 at Gate Inn.

The bottom two in seven continue to struggle Miners and Diners losing 4-2 to White Hart Spartans for whom D Smith scored a brace, Bolsover Old Boys Reserves being thumped by local rivals Ace Of Clubs 7-2. J Mitchell scored twice as Britannia beat Dronfield Miners 2-0.
