Chesterfield HC aim to finish season on a high

A stellar performance from goalkeeper Matt Lloyd plus two Joe Booth strikes were enough for Chesterfield to record their third win in as many games in Midlands Division 2 on Saturday.

Visitors Leicester produced a mean away performance to shut out an energetic home side, who now face a crucial last two weekends as they seek to avoid the drop.

Player-coach Ben Lamb said: “While there were some excellent individual performances, we looked like a really solid unit and work rate from the lads was fantastic.

“We have to carry that through into the final two games to make sure we finish on a high.”

In-form Leicester started brightly and forced several early penalty corners. They found Lloyd in inspired form, however, as the Chesterfield keeper made key saves.

The home side looked dangerous on the break and Booth broke the deadlock with his first goal for the club when he was afforded time and space to fire in a backhand shot.

Lloyd continued to thwart Leicester on the rare occasions they worked through the Chesterfield team. And the game was put to bed when Booth got his second of the game.

It came in similar circumstances to the first only this time a low and hard shot beating the opposition keeper.
