Hockey second-string look ahead to double test

Buxton’s seconds played their first friendly of the season against Chesterfield’s thirds last Saturday, going down to a 6-2 loss.

With several new players and a few regulars missing, Buxton struggled in the first half, conceding five times mustering only one goal in reply.

Moving Drennan back to centre-back and Heathcote into his usual central midfield position proved to be the turning point in the game.

Reinforced in defence and stronger in midfield, Buxton soon began to dominate and play with hockey that was reminiscent of last season.

Chances were being created every time Buxton pressed over the halfway line but only one chance was converted to a goal.

Buxton will have been pleased with their second-half performance and will now look to build on it when they play Leek’s fourth team in another friendly this Saturday.

• Meanwhile, Buxton’s first team went down to a narrow 3-1 defeat at home to Chesterfield’s second team on Saturday.
