Hawke swoops to score brace

Dronfield RUFC 62, Belper 14

Dronfield completed the double over Belper with a comprehensive home victory.

Dronfield started well, gaining the upper hand in the scrum and five minutes of sustained pressure lead to a try at the top corner for winger Nick Hawke. 5-0.

The next try came on ten minutes from a great run by Matt Nesbit. 12-0. flanker Hugo Ross had to withdraw with a sternum injury.

On 15 minutes a superb run by Carl Walker put Nigel Westerman in to score under the posts. 19-0.

Then Belper started to attack and on 20 minutes a misssed tackle let them in to score 19-7

At 25 minutes Dronfield hit back when a good pass from Matt Nesbit unleashed Carl Walker for a silky run through the defence to score. 24-7.

Unfortunately minutes later Carl had to withdraw with a knee injury.

On 38 minutes after a sustained period of Belper pressure and resolute Dronfield defence came a breakaway try for winger Nick Hawke with some well controlled hacking on to bag his brace. 29-7.

The final try came on the stroke of half time when a pack drive took the ball over for blindside flanker Robert Atkinson to score. 36-7.

On 45 minutes came the first score of the half from a great run by Gary Dempsey after good work in the scrum. 43-7.

Dronfield scored again from the kick off with the quick thinking Thomas Rice ceasing on a short kick off to move the ball on with an assist from Ali Sherlock to put full back Rob Collins in to score. 48-7.

Belper were next to score on 67 minutes showing good hands to score a try. 48-14.

On 75 minutes a good run by Matt Nesbit and unload To Rob Colllins who in turn put Jon Coxin at the corner. Another great conversion by Ali Sherlock followed. 55-14.

The final try came from some excellent team play with Gary Dempsey once again taking the ball over the line. 62-14 final score.
