Goal rush as 240 are scored as league kicks off

The new NAPIT Chesterfield Sunday League season got underway on Sunday in dramatic fashion as an amazing 240 goals were scored with three teams reaching double figures.

Not so however in defending champions Hasland’s encounter with Bolsover Town SC.

Town put down a marker in this game as they produced a top class display with Steve Johnson scoring the only goal of the game.

If neither keeper was particularly hard worked in this game spare a thought for their counterpart at Spital in Division Four who had to pick the ball out of the back of the net on 19 occasions as opponents Double Top went goal crazy.

Leading the onslaught was Mark Hadfield who hit five, Steve Finch hit a treble, Paul Weatherall and Gavin Moore chipped in with two apiece, the other seven goals being spread around the team.

In comparison Birdholme 2nds keeper in seven had a quieter day with hosts North Wingfield MW just managing the 12 goals, Richie Henson top scoring with five, closely followed by Scott Heggerty, Ash Walters, Karl Porter and Dean Gibson with a brace each.

In the same division Chesterfield Phoenix, visit to VK Royal Oak ended in disaster as they shipped ten goals, Wayne Geraghty another five goal man.

Ace Of Clubs couldn’t quite reach double figures but will still be delighted by the nine they scored at new club Duckmanton Community with Danny Stokes leading the way with a hat-trick.

Back up into the top flight and last season’s runners up Doe Lea Villa started brilliantly, beating their hosts Hollingwood by five goals to nil, Nico DeGiralamo scoring a couple.

A six goal thriller at Killamarsh Juniors Athletic went the way of the home side who beat Eckington Boys by four goals to two. In a Brampton derby FC Britannia just edged out Brampton Rovers, winning by the odd goal in five, Linacre on target twice, Fields once in the win.

Tom Harris scored three times for Tibshelf Town but still ended on the losing side, D Bradshaw, S Cowell, R Whitehead, S Lowde and A Russon’s goals winning it for Creswell Seniors.

Renishaw MW have climbed the league in splendid fashion in recent season’s but their debut game in NAPIT two ended in defeat as Clowne Wanderers beat them 7-3.

Wanderers progress has also been first class and S Richardson and D Hall both scored twice in their opening day victory.

Brampton Rovers JMA also made a winning start, Steve Adams, twice and Mathew Tighe’s goals earning them a 3-0 victory over Oxcroft MW.

Grassmoor Sports took an early lead against Barrow Hill MC thanks to an excellent strike from Ash Morton, however Mark Vine levelled matters in the second half from the penalty spot and almost hit a winner, his second penalty of the game being denied by a fine save from Dominic Vaughn.

Charlies Bar’s game with Killamarsh Juniors Athletic Reserves also finished level at 1-1.

Two sides hit seven in NAPIT three, new side Silver Birches and Wingerworth Barley Mow.

C Jillson hit four in WBM’s 7-1 win over Hady Bridge while Joe Newton registered a treble for Silver Birches, Thomas Poole a brace in a league debut 7-2 success against Brickmakers.

Black Swan were also in goal mode as they scored six without reply against Laburnum, Adam Wagg and Chris Noone both scoring twice.

The other two games in this division were closely fought affairs with Walton just doing enough to beat West Killamarsh 4-3 while Creswell Black Diamond and Staveley All Inn shared six goals and the points.

Other than the Spital Double Top clash mentioned earlier on the remaining games in NAPIT four were very close affairs with Crown Killamarsh Utd beating Red Lion 5-4, Richard Dye scoring twice however there would have been a much different outcome had Crown’s keeper Nick Olddale not saved two penalties.

New Inn Newton recorded a 3-2 over Dronfield Miners and Pilsley and Lowgates Sports Club drew 2-2.

Butchers Arms Spartans began life in division five against new club Goldminers in fine fashion as a S Ross hat-trick secured them a 3-1 victory.

Railway Club Athletic began likewise with an emphatic 6-1 win over Palterton Sporting Club, S Brown hitting a hat-trick.

Midland Hotel and Gate Inn North Wingfield competed well but had to settle for a point each as Midland’s goals from Alex Bullimont and Mike McGann were cancelled out by Rick Kirk and Paul Wallis.

Brimington Utd were three up by half time against North Wingfield through Chris Newell who scored twice and D Parkinson.

In the second period Newell completed a fine hat-trick with Parkinson registering his second.

Harley Scarlets made the perfect start to their league campaign by beating Chesterfield Arms 6-1.

New boys New Whitt B started well in six, D Watts scoring five times as they recorded an opening day 7-2 win at AFC Bolsover.

Clowne Wanderers Reserves, like their first team, began with a victory, 4-0 over Brimington Club. Dunston Rovers D Cox and J Growcutt scored in a 2-0 win over Bull and Badger while Ash Barber scored three, Craig Frampton two in Birdholme 1st’s 5-1 win at Woodthorpe.

Boythorpe were also winners, Fox scoring twice in their 5-3 success against Langer Lane.

Oxcroft Utd got off to a flyer in eight with goals from James Taylor 2, Jamie Cowley, Lee Spence and Gavin Sambrooke earning them a 5-3 win over Brampton Rovers Reserves, Holmebrook Tavern 2nds beat Markham Arms 5-2, Mark Wake and Danny O’Donnel each with two goals.
