Win over Chesterfield could mean more than Barnsley's Wembley party

A win against Chesterfield on Saturday could mean more to Barnsley than their Wembley victory last weekend.

That’s the view of Barnsley Chronicle sports editor Doug O’Kane, who expects the Tykes to line up in the same way as they did in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Previewing the Spireites’ visit to Oakwell, he said: “Last week was big for Barnsley as they won at Wembley for the first time and ended their 104-year wait for a cup trophy.

“But this week is even bigger in my opinion as they chase the more important prize of promotion.

“If they are to keep the pressure on Bradford and Millwall in the last two play-off places, they need a minimum of four points from a tricky match against their former manager Danny Wilson – who is still an Oakwell hero – on Saturday then their game in hand against Oldham on Tuesday.”

The main man for Barnsley in O’Kane’s eyes has been Adam Hammill, whose form has helped inspire his side to a meteoric rise up the League One table.

“Winger Adam Hammill has been the most important player in the turnaround from bottom of the league in December, after eight straight losses, to JPT champions and promotion contenders,” he said.

“He was outstanding at Wembley and will be a main threat of Saturday, as well as 18-goal striker Sam Winnall and captain Conor Hourihane.”

The Barnsley line-up, in a 4-4-2 formation, is expected to be: Davies, G Williams, Mawson, Roberts, A. White, Isgrove, Hourihane, Brownhill, Hammill, Winnall, Fletcher.
