Wilson: Pair face injury scans, Evans unlikely to return tomorrow, no deal for Taylor-Fletcher

Right-back Paul McGinn and stand-in left-back Dion Donohue are both due to have scans to determine the extent of injuries picked up last weekend.

McGinn had to come off during Saturday’s defeat by Bury with a hamstring problem and Donohue trod on a ball in training last Friday and tweaked his knee.

Danny Wilson admitted their absence left his already small squad looking threadbare.

“Paul’s is a hamstring strain obviously, but we’ll find out if it’s two, three weeks, four weeks.

“Dion will also have a scan and we’ll find out the details today.

“I think there’s nine first team players out at the moment and we can’t afford one or two, never mind nine but that’s what we’ve got on the treatment table at the minute.”

The Spireites’ boss opts to look on the bright side however, and hopes one of the players waiting in the wings will rise to the occasion.

“It leaves us very thin, but it’s an opportunity,” he said.

“Sometimes you’ve got lads in front of you and you don’t know if they’re good enough or not, and this is an opportunity to find out. You never know, we might come up with a little gem.

“We’ll have to reshuffle the pack and look at the younger lads. They’ll certainly be in contention.

“If it is a case one of the young kids is named, we’ll wish them all the best and hope they can surprise one or two people and stay in the team for a while.”

Wilson is hoping rather than expecting his Welsh international striker Ched Evans will be fit again for tomorrow’s game at the Proact.

The Chesterfield top goalscorer is still struggling with a heel injury and won’t be risked if he’s not completely ready to make a comeback.

And the club’s financial limitations mean Wilson won’t be able to bring in Gary Taylor-Fletcher to boost his attacking options.

The veteran has been on trial with the Spireites but no deal will be struck.

Wilson saud: “Nothing will happen. It’s basically one out, one in if we are going to do anything and at this stage it’s difficult to get anyone out. There are no loans available.

“You could always revisit it. It depends what activity there is in January, priorities might lie elsewhere then, we just don’t know yet.

“I’m not going to worry too much about it.

“We’re just going to use what we’ve got, but it would have been nice to get some experience in.”
