Why James Rowe believes Chesterfield have got 'different' ways they can hurt teams as they prepare to face Wealdstone

The Spireites face a Wealdstone side at the Technique Stadium on Saturday who are likely to put bodies behind the ball and make life difficult for Town but Rowe believes his team have the qualities to overcome that.

"I think if you look at the pattern of recruitment we have made, we have added some athleticism, we have added different ways of getting in behind opponents, that can be one v one dribbles, that can be raw pace, that can be technicians, so we have got different ways now of breaking down a block and hopefully that will stand us in good stead for the season,” he told the DT.

The Stones earned a goalless draw in Derbyshire towards the end of last season by defending deep and playing on the counter so is Rowe expecting a similar type of game tomorrow?

"Yes and no,” he said. “Their management team is still the same and they have the same sort of principles of play of what they are trying to implement but in terms of the changes in their squad and the changes we have made and with the crowd in as well, I think it makes for a completely different occasion. I think that brings a different type of challenge with our supporters behind us here at the Technique.”

In terms of what to expect from tomorrow’s visitors, Rowe says he expects to see a variation in their play.

"They try and play in terms of building up from deep areas but they can also go into the front with some of the recruitment they have made,” he added.

"They have recruited quite a lot in the summer, there has been quite a bit of change there, but I am expecting them to try and come at us early to try and bounce back from that home loss to Woking.

"I am sure they have got a point to prove and it is an exciting fixture for them as well because the stadium and environment here is a good one to play your football, in front of a crowd as well."
