The 25-year-old, who has only featured twice for the Magpies this season, will provide competition for the number one jersey.

The stopper can be immediately recalled by County and cannot play against them when the sides meet on February 1.

On Fitzsimons, Pemberton said: "He is experienced.

"He has played a lot of games for Notts County.

"The young players we have got at the club I don't think are ready for it.

"He was happy to come in and fight for the position.

"When I spoke to clubs about goalkeepers they wanted them to go straight in the team and I was not going to do that because Shwan has been excellent.

"He was happy to do that and support us and be part of our relegation fight and we are delighted to have him."

The 36-year-old found himself behind fellow goalkeeper Luke Coddington during periods this season but it will be hard to dislodge him from the starting line-up now.

"I was desperately looking for a goalkeeper because imagine putting the two young lads into that battle (against Eastleigh) they are not ready for that, this is why I needed the experience,” Pemberton added.

"He made the saves when he needed to, he took the pressure off when he had to and you can't ask for anymore, two great performances."
